HANNIBAL, Mo. – Hannibal out-hit Nashville 23-10 in a pair of seven-inning contest to take both games of a doubleheader at Samuel Clemens Field on Saturday. The Cavemen (11-8) extended their winning streak to five Saturday, edging the Outlaws 5-4 in game one before winning 12-1 in the nightcap.
With two losses on Saturday, the Outlaws (9-11) have now dropped three straight games after winning four straight from June 19-23.
In the game one the Outlaws trailed 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth before scoring three runs on four hits to tie the game. With the game tied at three, Hannibal added a run in the sixth and seventh inning to take a 5-3 lead. Down to their last at-bat in the bottom of the seventh, Nashville got within a run of the tying the game when Sam Dove (Georgia Tech) connected on his second home run of the season, a one-out solo shot off James Hudelson.
Taylor Haydel (Western Kentucky) fell to 1-1, allowing four runs on seven hits in six innings of work despite striking out a team and season-high nine batters.
Dove led Nashville at the plate in game one, going 2-for-3 with a home run and a double.
In the nightcap, Nashville jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning before Hannibal scored 12 unanswered over the next six frames. The Cavemen outhit the Outlaws 14-4 and took advantage of three Nashville errors for the lopsided victory.
The two teams will conclude the three-game series tomorrow (Sunday) when they meet at 1:05 p.m. CT at Samuel Clemens Field.
