Box Score

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Jarred Fancher's (TCU) fifth-inning solo shot over the scoreboard proved to be the difference as Nashville's pitching staff didn't allow a run after the fourth inning as the Outlaws defeated Richmond 5-4 in front of a crowd of 1,921 at Hawkins Field on Saturday night.

The Outlaws (1-2) trailed 3-0 after the RiverRats scored three unearned runs in the first two innings. Nashville responded with four runs of their own to take a 4-3 lead. With two outs in the third, Richmond starter Derek Grabner hit Kevin Smith (LSU-Shreveport), before serving up a two-run double down the right-field line by Ryan McCauley (Niagara) to plate the Outlaws first two runs.

With the Outlaws trailing 3-2, Grabner then walked four in succession, two with the bases loaded, giving Nashville a 4-3 lead. In all, 10 Outlaws came to the plate in the bottom of the third.

Daniel Palo (Middle Tennessee) allowed four runs (only one earned) on five hits in seven workmen-like innings to improve to 2-2 while Matt Fitton (Sacred Heart) and Jon Ivie (Belmont) both struck out a pair in one-inning of scoreless relief.

Ivie threw a scoreless ninth to earn his team-leading sixth save of the season while running his scoreless inning streak to 14.1 innings. Ivie (2-0, 0.00 ERA) has 16 strikeouts and just three walks in 14.1 innings for the Outlaws.

Greg Bachman (Austin Peay) and Johnny Amann (Judson) led Nashville with two hits apiece while Fancher and McCauley drove in two runs each.

Nashville will travel to Springfield, Ill., tomorrow for the start of what will be a six-game road trip. The Outlaws will play the Sliders for two games before traveling to Danville (Ill.) and Richmond (Ind.) for a pair of two-game series later in the week.
