The Nashville Outlaws were recently represented by three players at Tuesday night's Prospect League All-Star Game in Quincy, Ill. Doug Joyce (Florida International), Navery Moore (Vanderbilt) and Matt Fitton (Sacred Heart) played for the East squad.

Outlaws split DH with Dubois County

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Nashville Outlaws and Dubois County Bombers split a pair of seven-inning contests Thursday night at Hawkins Field. The Outlaws won the first game 7-1 behind a strong pitching performance by Taylor Haydel (Western Kentucky) before falling in the nightcap 5-4.
Nashville (12-13) sent newly acquired PJ Francescon (Trevecca) to the bump in game two, who responded with four scoreless innings to start the game.
In the nightcap, Nashville scored one run in the second and one run in the fourth to carry a 2-0 lead into the fifth. Jack Lupo (Vanderbilt) scored the first run of the game when he came across the plate on a Drew Fann (Vanderbilt) ground out. The Outlaws (12-13) added another run in the fourth as Andrew Brouillette (LSU-Shreveport), Johnny Amann (Judson) and Bryan Johns collected hits in the inning.
With the Outlaws leading 2-0 in the fifth, Dubois County (9-14) battled back to score three unearned runs with two outs, courtesy of a bases clearing double down the left-field line by Steve Tkowski to take the first lead of the night (including both games). All
The Bombers would add two more runs in the sixth to take a 5-2 lead into the bottom of the seventh. With Nashville down to its last at-bat, the Outlaws scraped away at the three-run deficit and got within 90-feet away from tying the game before falling 5-4.
Francescon allowed three runs, no earned on seven hits in 4.2 innings while striking out five.
Newly acquired Lee Thompson (St. Catherine) allowed two runs on two hits in 0.2 innings of middle relief in his Outlaw debut while Kevin Crumb (Buffalo) tossed 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.
Offensively in game two, the Outlaws were once again led by Ryan McCauley (Niagara). McCauley raised his average to a Prospect League best .361 with two more hits in the nightcap after going 3-for-4 in the first game on Thursday. McCauley is hitting .700 (16-for-23) over his last seven games.
Brouillettee went 2-for-4 with a run scored while Amann was 2-for-3.
Nashville will host the Danville Dans in a three-game series at Hawkins Field starting Friday. First pitch of tomorrow night’s game against the Dans is 7 p.m. CT.

Outlaws win game one of DH against Bombers

The Nashville Outlaws got a 10-strikeout performance from Taylor Haydel (Western Kentucky) and a 3-for-4, four-RBI game from red-hot Ryan McCauley (Niagara) to defeat Dubois County, 7-1 in game one of a Thursday doubleheader at Hawkins Field.
It marked the second straight game that a Nashville starting pitcher has struck out 10 batters in a game. Navery Moore (Vanderbilt) struck out 10 in seven innings last night in a 5-4 win against Springfield.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Doug Joyce, Matt Fitton and Navery Moore have been selected to play in the 2010 Prospect League All-Star Game, the league office announced Thursday. The three Nashville Outlaws will play for the East squad. The game will be held on July 6th, at QU Stadium in Quincy, Ill.
The all-star selections were voted on and made up by the field managers of all 15 participating teams in the league.
Moore, a hard-throwing right-hander from Vanderbilt, is 1-1 with a 3.32 ERA in three starts this summer. The Franklin, Tenn., native has 22 strikeouts and five walks in 19 innings.
Joyce (Florida International) has been a constant contributor in the middle of the lineup this summer for the Outlaws. In 11 games, Joyce is hitting .275 with a home run, three doubles and eight runs batted in. Joyce’s top performance came against West Virginia on June 20, when he went 3-for-5 with a double and two RBI, leading the Outlaws to a 6-2 win over the Miners.
Fitton is 1-2 with a 3.44 ERA in nine appearances, including one start. The 6-foot-9 right-hander out of Sacred Heart has a 4:1 strikeout to walk ratio in 18.1 innings this summer. In his most recent outing on June 29, Fitton faced just four batters in one-inning of scoreless relief.
Festivities all-star weekend also include, a pro scout workout for all the players, a always home run derby before the game, fireworks after the game and plenty of food, drink and fun!

Outlaws edge Sliders, 5-4; return home Thursday

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. – Ryan McCauley (Niagara) and Sam Dove (Georgia Tech) combined for five of Nashville’s seven hits and Navery Moore (Vanderbilt) struck out 10 in seven strong innings to lead Nashville to a 5-4 win over Springfield at Robin Roberts Stadium on Wednesday.
With the win, the Outlaws improve to 11-12 overall, while the loss drops the Sliders to 14-8. Springfield came into the game with 2.5 game lead in the Prospect League’s Western Division.
Nashville scored the first two runs of the game in the top of the first when they took advantage of two Springfield errors and a pass ball.
The Sliders (14-8) quickly tied the game at two in the bottom of the first when they scored two runs on three hits off Nashville starter Navery Moore.
The Outlaws regained the lead in the top of the fifth when Drew Fann (Vanderbilt) scored on a Bryan Johns infield groundout, giving Nashville a 3-2 lead. Fann led off the inning with a sharp double to left before advancing to third on a Jared Fancher (TCU) groundout.
Nashville tacked on two more runs in the top of the sixth to go up 5-2 as McCauley and Ryan Emery (Arkansas State) scored in the inning. The Outlaws got key hits by Johnny Amann (Judson), McCauley and Dove to take a three-run lead.
With the Outlaws holding a 5-2 lead, things got interesting when Springfield scored two runs on four hits in the bottom of the sixth, making the score 5-4.
Moore allowed four runs on nine hits in seven innings to go along with 10 strikeouts and just one walk to earn the win. Moore pounded the strike zone all night as 76 of his 109 pitches were strikes.
Kevin Crumb (Buffalo) threw a scoreless eighth before handing the ball to closer Jon Ivie (Belmont), who struck out two while retiring the side in order in the ninth to earn his fifth save.
Offensive notes:
McCauley is hitting .733 (11-for-15) in his last five games (all on the road), including a season-best 4-for-4 effort against Quincy on Monday. With the win, the Outlaws snap a three-game losing streak and improve to 10-11 overall while the loss drops Quincy back to .500 at 10-10.
Nashville showed some patience at the plate on Monday, as they took advantage of eight free passes from Quincy’s pitching staff and made them pay with a pair of multi-run home runs.
Nashville led 7-0 heading into the eighth inning before the Gems could finally get on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the inning.
Austin Bridgewater (Carson-Newman) won for the second time in his last three starts, tossing seven shutout innings on Monday. Bridgewater scattered only four hits while striking out two in the win.

Outlaws drop doubleheader to Hannibal

HANNIBAL, Mo. – Hannibal out-hit Nashville 23-10 in a pair of seven-inning contest to take both games of a doubleheader at Samuel Clemens Field on Saturday. The Cavemen (11-8) extended their winning streak to five Saturday, edging the Outlaws 5-4 in game one before winning 12-1 in the nightcap.
With two losses on Saturday, the Outlaws (9-11) have now dropped three straight games after winning four straight from June 19-23.
In the game one the Outlaws trailed 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fourth before scoring three runs on four hits to tie the game. With the game tied at three, Hannibal added a run in the sixth and seventh inning to take a 5-3 lead. Taylor Haydel (Western Kentucky) fell to 1-1, allowing four runs on seven hits in six innings of work despite striking out a team and season-high nine batters.
Dove led Nashville at the plate in game one, going 2-for-3 with a home run and a double.
In the nightcap, Nashville jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning before Hannibal scored 12 unanswered over the next six frames. The Cavemen outhit the Outlaws 14-4 and took advantage of three Nashville errors for the lopsided victory.
The two teams will conclude the three-game series tomorrow (Sunday) when they meet at 1:05 p.m. CT at Samuel Clemens Field.
